César Knebel and Fabrizio Di Cesare appointed Chairmen of DYE-STAFF

Milan, July 22, 2016 – César Knebel and Fabrizio Di Cesare are the new chairmen of Dye-Staff’s, the international cooperation in the field of dyes companies.

Knebel and Di Cesare were elected at the General Meeting of members and succeed to Roberto Pasini, who has been the chiarman of the cooperation since its establishment in 2012.

As to the priorities for the next two years: “Completing the investment in scientific research to formulate effective and sustainable alternatives to registration methods envisaged by the European REACH regulation. Second, continuing the work of public information and involvement of public institutions and policy makers at national and European level, in order to have alternative solutions adoped by May 2018 ” emphasizes Knebel.

“We are at a difficult time for SMEs of the dyestuffs industry – adds Di Cesare -with the real risk of closure of hundreds of enterprises across Europe and the consequent loss of jobs. We can not wait, but we must be the first to bring the matter before the competent institutions. We already did in 2012 with the presentation of a petition to the Parliament and the European Commission and then in 2014 with the presentation of the study on the socio-economic impact to the Ministries of Health and of Economic Development. Now that the issue is open and clear we must work together to find a solution that is economically sustainable. ”

Dyestaff is a group of international SME (Small Medium Enterprises) that operates in the chemical field for the TEXTILE, LEATHER and PAPER sectors.
The cooperation was set up according to the specific legislation in order to comply with the Regulation (CE) n.1907/2006 also known as REACH.
We thoroughly conform to the goals of the Regulation that forground the improvement of human health and the environment, but we also want to focus on the UNSUSTAINABILITY for SME of the tools chosen to pursue such objectives.

Sustainable chemistry and chemicals reduction

“The risk is that we will end up competing with non-EU producers who are exempted from the rules that we have to stick to” with these words Marco Lariccia – on behalf of the Scientific Committee of Dye-Staff – outlined the competitive scenario that will be created within less than two years. The reason being that “many of the substances regulated in Europe are not controlled at all abroad,” and this will inevitably lead to an imbalance in the competitive framework.

On May the17th an important international symposium on innovation and sustainability in textiles and clothing was held in Prato and Dye-Staff did not fail to get the point across and to inform about the steps that are being made in our country . “The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (Italian National Chamber of Fashion) – explained Lariccia – has endorsed an Italian specifications which defines the requirements of the Italian textile sector, with plans to extend it at the European level“. These are the guidelines on eco-toxicological requirements that the president of the CNMI, Carlo Capasa, submitted on the 29th of February at the conclusion of the Milan Fashion Week.

The meeting in Prato, organized the Councillor Daniela Toccafondi, was part of the initiatives of the European Project RESET (Research Centers of Excellence in the Textile sector) whose specific objective is to improve the infrastructure in research and innovation and the ability to develop excellence in R & I by promoting centers of competence.
